Commandos 2: Men of Courage is a tactical action/strategy game set against the backdrop of World War II. Take control of an elite group of commandos who must venture deep into enemy territory and utilize their combined expertise to complete a series of mission-based objectives. Go covert into new environments based on authentic WWII locations: the heart of the third Reich, a northern European submarine installation, the headquarters of the Japanese army and more.
The player takes control of an elite group of commandos who must venture deep into enemy territory to complete a series of mission-based objectives in an attempt to change the course of the war. The game incorporates several new features and utilises a completely new 3D game engine, enabling indoor and outdoor locations as well as the ability to rotate the environment. The player is given a huge new playing field and total freedom to explore as no corner is out of reach.
Commandos 2 features three new characters, who bring with them unique skills to help you defeat the enemy. However, enemy soldiers are smarter and more varied than ever and they will hear, see and even smell your every move!
Each commando has his own special attributes that will be invaluable to complete your objectives. For instance call in the explosives expert when you need to disarm a mine. In moments of stealth timing is critical. Neutralizing the enemy is essential. Stun the guard with a fist, or silence him forever with a knife.
You can pick up weapons, and supplies through out the course of each mission. Each character can hold a certain amount of items with a grid like backpack resembling Diablo. Machine-guns, grenades, med-kits, rifles, uniforms, cigarettes, wire cutters all of these items are at your disposal. Your characters will run through a brief plan of action before each level. That way the player can get a sense of what to do. This also makes you feel like part of the team, and helps draw you into the action. Of course the plan they come up with is always very vague so you must devise a serious strategy to find any success.
You can interact with the environment so much in this game, such as jumping walls, swimming, grappeling, using mounted machine guns, taking enemy uniforms, and the world is totally destructable. You can enter a building, la down some C4, and then sit back and watch the fireworks, that is, as long as you escape. Your team consists of a green beret, a sniper, a diver, a sapper, a spy, a driver, a thief, and several others. Each soldier has their own unique weapons and items, but you can always take weapons off a dead enemy. The AI is awfully smart too. If they see footprints or blood, or hear gunfire, they will come and investigate. They will open fire on seeing your men, unless they are in disguise, which doesn't always work. They may set off the alarm, bringing fresh help from the local barracks, or they will even try to take you prisoner! The best way to avoid an enemy posse is to kill silently, such as a knife attack or a lethal injection. You can even steal wechiles, such as a tank or a truck. The levels will take place from the Far East to war-torn Europe itself. Plus there are secret missions that you have to unlock.
Take your commandos to new geographical environments including Asia, the Arctic, North Africa as well as Europe. You will drive new vehicles and fire new weapons. The gameplay is faster, more realistic and more action packed than ever before.
